Frequently Asked Questions
-
Virtual training offers many benefits including: you and your dog being comfortable, being effective as it is your true everyday scenario you will be training in, hands on practice in the moment, and continuous support through video feedback!
-
Service Dogs are dogs that have been trained to perform a task(s) that directly mitigates their handlers' disability. Service dog teams have public access rights under the ADA and can go anywhere the general public can go (excluding sterile environments).
-
Being a service dog requires confidence, resilience, drive, and a very stable temperament. At Centre Stage Dog Training, we help owners train their service dogs; however, they will first have to undergo an evaluation to determine if they are a suitable prospect to begin training. We can also help you find a prospective dog to begin owner-training with!
-
Owner-training a service dog means the dog will be raised and trained by you with the help of a professional service dog trainer, either in-person, virtually, or a combination of the two. You will live with and work with your owner-trained service dog daily while being supported by a professional service dog trainer. Owner-training is a great option because it allows for more flexibility and tends to be cheaper than acquiring a fully-trained service dog. However, owner-training requires a significant commitment of time, effort, and resources.
-
Service dogs can alert to medical events/conditions, alert to the presence of allergens, alert to sounds and bring the handler to the source, retrieve items, open and close cabinets and doors, deep pressure therapy, forward momentum pull, turn lights on/off, help respond to psychiatric events, and more! If you are curious about what tasks may be most beneficial for you, or what we can help with, contact us for a consultation!
-
Service dog training generally takes 1.5-2 years to get to fully-trained service dog status! However, they often become beneficial to handlers before they are “fully trained”
-
The first step is scheduling a consultation with Centre Stage Dog Training! From there, we will discuss your needs and goals in detail, evaluate your dog if you already have one, or develop a plan to help you find the right prospect for owner training or a fully-trained service dog.
